Solution Ensures the Fidelity of Latency-Sensitive Traffic
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARUN), a global leader in distributed enterprise network solutions, today announced that its application fingerprinting technology now optimizes voice over Wi-Fi calling with Research In Motion’s new BlackBerry® Mobile Voice System 5 (BlackBerry MVS 5). BlackBerry MVS 5 is an enterprise unified communications solution that extends corporate phone systems to BlackBerry smartphones. Aruba’s fingerprinting technology identifies latency-sensitive voice application traffic, and then conditions the Wi-Fi network to deliver it reliably without compromising fidelity.
“The quality of a Wi-Fi network can have a profound effect on the performance of unified communications solutions like BlackBerry Mobile Voice System 5,” said Peter Cellarius, Aruba’s Vice President of Business Development. “The network must deliver continuous coverage, hand-off signals as users roam, maintain quality of service (QoS), and help optimize battery life. When operating on an Aruba wireless LAN, BlackBerry smartphone users with BlackBerry MVS 5 can get uninterrupted network access and flawless performance.”
BlackBerry MVS 5 enables business users to use their regular desk phone number and extension from their BlackBerry smartphone to make and receive enterprise phone calls. Calls can be made over cellular or Wi-Fi networks between a BlackBerry smartphone and the corporate phone system or private branch exchange. Aruba has been working with Research In Motion as a member of the BlackBerry Alliance Program to ensure the interoperability of its wireless LAN and application fingerprinting technology for voice over Wi-Fi calling with BlackBerry MVS 5.
Application fingerprinting is a component of Aruba’s Adaptive Radio Management (ARM) technology. Using infrastructure-based controls, ARM auto-adapts to handle the traffic and compensate for interference, client density, adjacent networks, and other variables. Fingerprinting automatically detects latency-sensitive application and adjusts QoS and other parameters to ensure reliable and timely delivery - a feat that microcell and single channel Wi-Fi architectures can’t match.
“We’ve tested application fingerprinting and our other Adaptive Radio Management features in some of the largest and most forward-looking enterprises on the planet, and we know it works,” said Cellarius. “We can deliver a consistent application experience wherever users roam. BlackBerry MVS 5 is a great solution for today’s connected enterprises, and it becomes even better when combined with Aruba’s wireless LAN technologies.”
Aruba will discuss the use of voice over Wi-Fi with BlackBerry MVS 5 at the Wireless Enterprise Symposium in Orlando, Florida, in a session titled “Strategies for implementing Voice over Wi-Fi.”
A new white paper, “The Convergence of Enterprise Telecom Services: BlackBerry® Mobile Voice System on the Aruba Networks Wireless LAN Infrastructure,” is now available on the integration of Aruba’s Wi-Fi and BlackBerry MVS 5 UC applications. The paper can be downloaded from Aruba’s Web site at http://www.arubanetworks.com/technology/whitepapers.php.
