All-in Sustaining Cost

All-in sustaining costs (“AISC”) include total production cash costs incurred at Goldcorp’s (the “Company”) mining operations, which forms the basis of the Company’s by-product cash costs. Additionally, the Company includes sustaining capital expenditures, corporate administrative expense, exploration and evaluation costs, and reclamation cost accretion and amortization. The measure seeks to reflect the full cost of gold production from current operations, therefore growth capital is excluded. Certain other cash expenditures, including tax payments, dividends and financing costs are also excluded.

AISC is a non-GAAP performance measures that the Company believes more fully defines the total costs associated with producing gold; however, this performance measure has no standardized meaning. Accordingly, it is intended to provide additional information and should not be considered in isolation or as a substitute for measures of performance prepared in accordance with GAAP. The Company reports this measure on a gold ounces sold basis. The Company’s all-in sustaining cost definition conforms to the guidance note released by the World Gold Council, which became effective January 1, 2014. The World Gold Council is a non-regulatory market development organization for the gold industry whose members comprise global senior gold mining companies.

Peñasquito, located about 780 kilometres northwest of Mexico City, produces gold, silver, lead and zinc. There’s an airport on site, and a 1,900-bed camp with full dining, laundry and recreational facilities. The operation has an open pit mine, Peñasco, and two processing facilities. Ore is extracted using standard shovel mining techniques, and trucked to either:

a heap leach facility, which processes oxide ore and has an average gold recovery of 57%
a plant that processes sulphide ore using a high pressure grinding roll circuit and has an average gold recovery of 66%.

Peñasquito is an important part of our overall plans to increase production by 20% by 2021. It’s taking the following steps to increase production:

investing $420 million to improve its processing facilities. The Pyrite Leach Project will make processing higher carbon sulphide ore more efficient, and recover 40% of the gold that currently sits in the tailings as waste
developing a second open pit, Chile Colorado, to gain access to gold and other metals
mining higher gold grades in the Peñasco pit.

Exploration

Peñasquito is a breccia pipe deposit that developed from intrusion-related hydrothermal activity. Two diatreme pipes, Peñasco and Brecha Azul, are the principal hosts for the gold-silver-zinc-lead mineralization. Drilling to date has focused on exploring and delineating the Peñasco and Chile Colorado zones – the latter comprising mineralized sedimentary rocks adjacent to the Brecha Azul diatreme.

Peñasquito’s exploration program has the following goals:

evaluating a portfolio of 25 early stage targets which were highlighted through generative work in 2017, and which is expected to drive the future success of the district.

Every year hundreds of children descend on Peñasquito for a tour. They learn about mining, adopt a tree in the nursery and even get to wear a hardhat. It’s one of the ways we help our neighbours understand who we are and what we do.

Peñasquito hires locally and supports local businesses wherever possible, even working closely with small-business owners to help them build their business. A local supplier makes all of Peñasquito’s uniforms, and is diversifying its client base to other parts of Mexico with Peñasquito’s help.

Rescue teams can be called upon to respond any emergency, even those that occur beyond the mine gate. Peñasquito’s team is actively involved in emergency response training and preparation in the community – not just on the mine site.
