Aruba Networks Makes Big Strides in 802.11N with a Jump in Market Share and New Entry-Level Single-Radio 802.11N Access Points

06/06/2010

New AP-92 and AP-93 Target Low-Density Wi-Fi Environments

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARUN), a global leader in distributed enterprise network solutions, today announced that its enterprise 802.11n wireless LAN market share increased from calendar 4 Q 2009 to 1 Q 2010 according to market research firm Dell’Oro Group’s just-released "First Quarter 2010 Wireless LAN Report." Including both branded and OEM dependent access point unit shipments, Aruba’s 802.11n market share rose to 21%, up from 17.3% in the previous quarter. Aruba’s total enterprise revenue and total enterprise unit shipments also rose, solidly positioning Aruba as one of the top two enterprise wireless LAN vendors.

“802.11n is a disruptive networking technology that is causing end users to reassess traditional vendor relationships, and they are actively voting with their pocketbooks,” said Chris Spain, Aruba’s Vice President of Product Management. “Aruba is a major beneficiary of that market shift, and the result has been a surge in our 802.11n market share. With the transition to 802.11n in full swing, the wireless LAN landscape is being redrawn around the two market leaders.”

To better serve Wi-Fi environments with low client densities, Aruba also announced the release of two compact, single-radio 802.11n access points. The entry-level AP-92 and AP-93 are priced at $395 U.S. list – lower than many legacy 802.11bg access points – and are covered by Aruba’s limited lifetime warranty.

“Customers that require the best performance to support high client densities are already well served by our AP-105, AP-124, and AP-125 802.11n access points,” said Spain. “We designed the AP-92 and AP-93 for applications at the other end of the scale – offices, clinics, schools, and retail stores with low-density client environments – that require entry-level, single-radio functionality plus enterprise-class security and reliability.”

The multifunction AP-92 and AP-93 can be configured to provide 802.11n Wi-Fi access, spectrum analysis, remote networking, indoor mesh, or wireless intrusion prevention over the 2.4GHz and 5GHz RF spectrum. They feature enterprise-class security, and incorporate a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) to securely store network credentials and cipher keys even if the access point is probed or stolen. The AP-92 supports external antennas while the AP-93 has internal antennas. Both access points can be powered from a standard 802.3af power-over-Ethernet (PoE) source or a 12-volt DC power supply.

The AP-92 and 93 will be available by the end of June 2010. Additional details can be found on-line at Aruba’s web site.
