Enterprise-Grade Mobility Solution to Improve Patient Care, Operational Efficiency and Electronic Health Records (EHR) Security
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARUN), a leading provider of next-generation network access solutions for the mobile enterprise, today announced that Neshoba County General Hospital and Nursing Home in Philadelphia, Miss., has begun modernizing its wireless network with technology from Aruba. The new Aruba wired and wireless network deployment, which is being designed and implemented by Aruba partner Business Communications Distributors (BCD), allows doctors, nurses and authorized staff to use mobile devices to record, access and update patient data from anywhere in the facility.
“Our doctors and nurses are always on the move – patient rooms, offices, waiting rooms and emergency rooms,” said Chris Stokes, Director of Information Technology, Neshoba County General Hospital and Nursing Home. “Our new Aruba Wi-Fi infrastructure allows doctors and nurses to visually share lab results and other data from mobile devices while visiting with patients instead of just verbally explaining results. Aruba’s Wi-Fi security features also enable us to meet federal HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) requirements for electronic recordkeeping that will be enforced next year.”
The new infrastructure includes Aruba Instant access points and Aruba mobility access switches. By replacing largely consumer-grade components from a variety of vendors with Aruba’s enterprise-class solution, Neshoba County General Hospital now has the flexibility to evolve its wireless and wired networks at its Nursing Home and clinics, as facilities and services demand.
“We evaluated a number of companies and products, but the alternatives seemed complex and confusing to implement and manage,” added Stokes. “We chose Aruba’s controller-less Wi-Fi solution because it provided built-in reliability, zero-touch provisioning and was simple to deploy. Aruba’s Mobility access switches allow us to easily extend security and management capabilities to our wired network.”
Aruba’s Instant access points provide Neshoba County General Hospital and Nursing Home with convenient over-the-air configuration and advanced security features. All patient medical records and test results are encrypted according to HIPAA requirements and delivered over a locked-down network — one of three segmented networks within the wireless infrastructure. The second network gives employees wireless access to facility information such as ambulance services, while the third is for patients and their families and guests.
“When we conducted onsite surveys to evaluate Neshoba’s technology needs, we discovered a tremendous opportunity to help doctors and nurses work more efficiently,” said Mike Miller, Director of IP Services, BCD. “For example, instead of waiting to use a device in a part of the facility that had a usable Wi-Fi connection, nurses can now use a laptop or tablet to perform critical job functions from anywhere, instantly accessing x-rays, MRIs, lab results and other important patient information.”
The network modernization project is a core component of the ongoing renovation and expansion of the facility, which includes the hospital, nursing home and two onsite clinics. Neshoba County General Hospital-Nursing Home, a member of HealthTrust, also operates five offsite clinics. Upon completion of the renovation, the main facility will house two additional clinics and enable Neshoba to bring all its doctors onsite.
Future network upgrades at Neshoba County General Hospital, Nursing Home and clinics will feature a hybrid model of Aruba Mobility controllers and access points as well as additional Instant access points. Neshoba also plans to deploy Aruba’s AirWave Network Management System to enable IT application and device management across the network.
